Approached by an avenue of sphinxes, the Wadi es-Sebua [temple](https://www.worldhistory.org/temple/) was built during the reign of [Ramesses II](https://www.worldhistory.org/Ramesses_II/) (r. 1279-1213 BCE) and dedicated to [Amun](https://www.worldhistory.org/amun/)-Ra, Ra-Harakhty and the deified [pharaoh](https://www.worldhistory.org/pharaoh/). The structure was partly rock-cut and partly freestanding. The inner sanctuary was later converted into a Coptic church.
