## Image Caption

An 1874-5 painting in oils, *A Painter at Work*, by [Paul Cézanne](https://www.worldhistory.org/Paul_Cezanne/) (1839-1906), the French post-impressionist artist. This work shows the influence of the impressionists on Cézanne's palette which uses bright, rich yellow tones and blues. The quick brush strokes are another feature of [impressionism](https://www.worldhistory.org/Impressionism/). It is perhaps an unfinished work. (Private Collection)
