A c. 1876 painting in oils, *Bathers at Rest*, by [Paul Cézanne](https://www.worldhistory.org/Paul_Cezanne/) (1839-1906), the French post-impressionist artist. Cézanne painted many variations of this scene throughout his career. The background landscape in this case is Mont Saint-Victoire in southern France. (Barnes Foundation, Philadelphia)
