## Image Caption

A c. 1903 landscape in oils, *Mont Sainte-Victoire*, by [Paul Cézanne](https://www.worldhistory.org/Paul_Cezanne/) (1839-1906), the French post-impressionist artist. Cézanne painted the mountain, located in southern France just east of Aix-en-Provence, almost 60 times in all kinds of views and [seasons](https://www.worldhistory.org/Horae/) and in various styles. This is one of his later versions and shows the artist's increasingly abstract style. (Philadelphia Museum of Art)
