A stoneware portrait bust of Prince Rupert, Count Palatine of the Rhine and Duke of Bavaria (l. 1619-1682). Rupert was the nephew of [Charles I of England](https://www.worldhistory.org/Charles_I_of_England/) (r. 1625-1649) and led the Royalist cavalry during the [English Civil Wars](https://www.worldhistory.org/English_Civil_Wars/) (1642-51) before 1645. Rupert here wears the collar of the [Order of the Garter](https://www.worldhistory.org/Order_of_the_Garter/). (British Museum, London)
