Leslie was defeated by the English Parliament's [New Model Army](https://www.worldhistory.org/New_Model_Army/) led by [Oliver Cromwell](https://www.worldhistory.org/Oliver_Cromwell/) at the [battle](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/battle/) of Dunbar in September 1650 and again by the same foe at the battle of Worcester in September 1651.
