## Image Caption

A replica of a 17th-century matchlock firing mechanism on a musket. Typical equipment for musketeers during the [English Civil Wars](https://www.worldhistory.org/English_Civil_Wars/), this mechanism required a lit fuse to be dropped into a firing [pan](https://www.worldhistory.org/Pan/) of priming powder which in turn set off the main powder and fired the bullet.
