The 1489 altarpiece by Veit Stoss in Saint Mary’s Basilica, Krakow, Poland. Known as the [Death](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Death/) of the Virgin altarpiece, it is a monumental example of the folding-screen type altarpiece. The panels show scenes from the life of Mary and [Jesus](https://www.worldhistory.org/Jesus_Christ/) while the central figure-group shows Mary with the 12 Apostles.
