The [palace](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/palace/) of king [Ardashir I](https://www.worldhistory.org/Ardashir_I/) (r. 224-240 CE), the founder of the Persian [Sasanian Empire](https://www.worldhistory.org/Sasanian_Empire/), was built around 224 CE opposite the [city](https://www.worldhistory.org/city/) he had founded, Ardashir-Khurrah (“Glory of Ardashir”), on the bank of the western branch of Tangab river. The structure consisted of several parts opening to a garden with a pool and contained three domes, resembling the Parthian palace at [Ctesiphon](https://www.worldhistory.org/ctesiphon/).
