The angel Metatron as depicted in the *Daqa’iq al-Haqa’iq* by 14th-century Islamic artist Nasir al-Din Rammal.

Metatron appears in Kabbalistic mystical texts and was considered to be the highest of angels closest to [God](https://www.worldhistory.org/God/). In Jewish apocryphal texts and early [Kabbalah](https://www.worldhistory.org/Kabbalah/) writings, Metatron is associated with [Enoch](https://www.worldhistory.org/Enoch/). He also appears in the Islamic tradition where he is known as *Mīṭaṭrūn*, the angel of the veil.
