*Enoch*, lithograph by William Blake, published in London, 1803-1807.

The British Museum, London.

The lithograph portrays the biblical character Enoch, son of Jared, father of Methuselah, and an ancestor of [Noah](https://www.worldhistory.org/Noah/). Enoch was a key figure in the *[Old Testament](https://www.worldhistory.org/Old_Testament/)* who was said to live 365 years before he was taken by [God](https://www.worldhistory.org/God/) to heaven. There he was initiated into mysteries and secrets of angels and archangels. Some sources associate him with Metatron, the angel. For that reason, Enoch was a key figure in the Rabbinic *[kabbalah](https://www.worldhistory.org/Kabbalah/)* of Jewish mysticism as he was said to have an access to divine knowledge.
