## Image Caption

Artist imagination of [Valhalla](https://www.worldhistory.org/Valhalla/), [Odin](https://www.worldhistory.org/odin/)'s hall of fallen warriors (*Einherjar*). Unlike [Hel](https://www.worldhistory.org/Hel/) that was a rather gloomy and dark place, Valhalla was a blissful after-life location. Here souls were looked after by Valkyries who served them mead.

The image was created in 1896 and was a part of the scenic design *of Twilight of the Gods* from *The Ring of the Nibelungs* that was an opera by [Richard Wagner](https://www.worldhistory.org/Richard_Wagner/) (1813-1883).
