An image presenting the trickster [Loki](https://www.worldhistory.org/Loki/) giving [Sif](https://www.worldhistory.org/Sif/) newly-made [gold](https://www.worldhistory.org/gold/)-spun hair. Loki was an entity in [Norse mythology](https://www.worldhistory.org/Norse_Mythology/) who was involved in misdeeds against multiple gods and mortals. One of them was cutting off the golden hair of Sif, the goddess of earth and wheat. Unfortunately for him, Sif was married to the [god](https://www.worldhistory.org/God/) of thunder [Thor](https://www.worldhistory.org/Thor/) who was one of the most powerful gods in the Norse [pantheon](https://www.worldhistory.org/Pantheon/). Thor coerced Loki to compensate Sif for this prank. As a result of this, Loki gave her the golden headpiece made by drafts.

The illustration was published in 1910 in *The Gordon Readers* by Emma K. Gordon.
