In [Roman mythology](https://www.worldhistory.org/Roman_Mythology/) the two demi-[god](https://www.worldhistory.org/God/) brothers were credited with the founding of [Rome](https://www.worldhistory.org/Rome/) in 753 BCE. The [sculpture](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Sculpture/) is traditionally dated to the 5th century BCE [Etruscans](https://www.worldhistory.org/Etruscan_Civilization/) but it may be later. The figures were added in the 15th century CE. (Capitoline Museums, Rome)
