[Minoan](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Minoan/) limestone sarcophagus, c. 1400 BCE.

Heraklion Archaeological Museum, [Crete](https://www.worldhistory.org/crete/).

This painting appears on one of the two longer sides of the sarcophagus. It shows a sacrificial procession, part of a funerary ritual, with a woman offering a bleeding bull, a male musician playing the double flute, and another woman who might be leading the rites. A basket of sacred cakes is suspended above the altar. More animals, perhaps further sacrifices, under the table.
