Now a luxury hotel, it was once the home of industrialist Otto Herman Khan (l. 1867-1934) and was built between 1914-1919. It has been featured in famous films such as *Citizen Kane* as well as many [music](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Music/) videos and TV shows and was also the inspiration for the novel *The Great Gatsby* by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
