Aoba Castle (also known as Sendai Castle) was built in 1611. The castle was repeatedly damaged by natural disasters such as earthquakes and fires, particularly during the 17th Century, as well as human conflict. Several structures, including the tower pictured, have been rebuilt in recent times. In Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, [Japan](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Japan/).
