## Image Caption

The Sanctuary of [Isis](https://www.worldhistory.org/isis/) at Dion in Macedonia ([Greece](https://www.worldhistory.org/greece/)) was built during the 2nd century CE over the ruins of an earlier sanctuary dedicated to [Aphrodite](https://www.worldhistory.org/Aphrodite/) and [Artemis](https://www.worldhistory.org/artemis/). It had a four-columned prostyle [temple](https://www.worldhistory.org/temple/) in its center dedicated to Isis Lochia, the goddess protecting [women](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/women/) following childbirth, with a wide porch at the same level as the courtyard.
