A 1908 photograph of the nine largest stones cut from the [Cullinan diamond](https://www.worldhistory.org/Cullinan_Diamond/) which was discovered in Transvaal, South [Africa](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/africa/) in 1905. The stones are each named Cullinan I to IX after the owner of the mine in which it was found. Cullinan I is now set in the Sovereign Sceptre and Cullinan II is set in the Imperial State Crown of the [British Crown Jewels](https://www.worldhistory.org/British_Crown_Jewels/) in the [Tower of London](https://www.worldhistory.org/Tower_of_London/).
Top row (L to R): Cullinan II, I and III.
Bottom row (L to R): Cullinan VI, VIII, IV, V, VII and IX.
