# Lilies of the Valley Egg by Fabergé

## Image Caption

The 1898 Lilies of the Valley Egg by Peter Carl Fabergé (1846-1920). The egg was given by [Tsar Nicholas II](https://www.worldhistory.org/Tsar_Nicholas_II/) (r. 1894-1917) to his wife Alexandra Feodorovna. The egg is made of [gold](https://www.worldhistory.org/gold/) and pink enamel with pearl, diamond, and ruby decoration. The surprise is a trio of portraits which appear through the top of the egg. The portraits are of [Tsar](https://www.worldhistory.org/Tsar/) Nicholas and his two daughters. It measures 15 cm (5.9 in) in height.
