## Image Caption

A model of a torture rack in the [Tower of London](https://www.worldhistory.org/Tower_of_London/). The rack was used to extract confessions and information by stretching the limbs and eventually ripping the tendons and sinews of the person tied to it. A famous example of its use was on Guy Fawkes after the 5 November 1605 [Gunpowder Plot](https://www.worldhistory.org/Gunpowder_Plot/) to blow up the English parliament and the authorities wished to know the names of his fellow conspirators.
