The industrial area dedicated to the salting of fish and the production of the famous fish sauce (garum) in Baelo Claudia in southern Spain. The large basins dug into the ground served to pile up the pieces of fish to be salted. The fish and salt were positioned in successive layers, taking approximately twenty days for the salting process to be completed.
