Malahide Castle was the ancestral home of the Talbot family for centuries, and parts of the building date to the 12th century CE. The first castle was built by Richard Talbot, an English knight who had helped King [Henry II of England](https://www.worldhistory.org/Henry_II_of_England/) invade Ireland.
