## Image Caption

Two examples of the distinctive Kamares Style of [pottery](https://www.worldhistory.org/pottery/) decoration used by the Minoans based on [Crete](https://www.worldhistory.org/crete/) in the Middle [Bronze Age](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Bronze_Age/) (2000-1700 BCE). The designs were rendered with bold strokes of red and white on a black background and the style is named after the place on Crete where most examples have been excavated.
