The region, known for its [gold](https://www.worldhistory.org/gold/), would later break from [Egyptian](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Egyptian/) influence during the reign of King Ergomenes (also known as Arkamani I; r. 295 - 275 BCE) to create it's own unique cultural elements during the Meroitic Period.
