Crowland Abbey was founded in 971 CE according to the Benedictine Rule. It was dedicated to Saints Mary and Bartholomew, as well as Saint [Guthlac of Crowland](https://www.worldhistory.org/Guthlac_of_Crowland/) (c. 674 - 11 April 714 CE).
