## Image Caption

A photorealistic representation of what the [Roman emperor](https://www.worldhistory.org/Roman_Emperor/) [Hadrian](https://www.worldhistory.org/hadrian/) (r. 117-138 CE) may have looked like as an older man. Based on contemporary and near contemporary descriptions, as well as archaeological evidence. Pictured alongside the reconstruction are the busts and statuary used as references. These include two marble portraits from the Colossal Head of Hadrian from the Vatican (top left), the Altes Museum bust (right), and the British Museum bust (bottom left).
