## Image Caption

The [Ghent Altarpiece](https://www.worldhistory.org/Ghent_Altarpiece/), aka The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb by the Netherlandish Renaissance artist [Jan van Eyck](https://www.worldhistory.org/Jan_van_Eyck/) (c. 1390-1441 CE). An inscription on the reverse also credits Hubert van Eyck (d. 1426 CE) but so little is known of this individual and linguistic studies on the inscription, itself a later transcription of a possible original, have led scholars to question its authenticity. 1432 CE. (Saint Bavo Cathedral, Ghent, Belgium)
