Danae, a 1554 CE oil painting by the Italian Renaissance artist [Titian](https://www.worldhistory.org/Titian/) (c. 1487-1576 CE). In [Greek mythology](https://www.worldhistory.org/Greek_Mythology/) Danae was seduced by the [god](https://www.worldhistory.org/God/) [Zeus](https://www.worldhistory.org/zeus/) when he appeared as a golden shower. The result of their union was the hero [Perseus](https://www.worldhistory.org/Perseus/). (Prado Museum, Madrid)
