The Severan Bridge (also known as Cendere Bridge) is a [Roman](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Roman/) bridge located near the ancient [city](https://www.worldhistory.org/city/) of Arsameia (today Eskikale), 55 km (34 miles) north east of Adıyaman in southeastern [Turkey](https://www.worldhistory.org/Asia_Minor/). It was built by the Sixteenth Roman legion stationed at Samosata (Samsat) in the last years of the 2nd century CE. The columns on the southeastern end of the bridge were dedicated to emperor [Septimius Severus](https://www.worldhistory.org/Septimius_Severus/) and his wife [Julia Domna](https://www.worldhistory.org/Julia_Domna/).
