## Image Caption

A typical military sign from the [Ottoman Empire](https://www.worldhistory.org/Ottoman_Empire/) known as "arma" (this Homeric [Greek](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/greek/) expression itself reflects a symbol adopted under influence from abroad). Used in the Turkish army (infantry) and displayed on the reverse side of the battalion banners (military colors) of European style introduced after the Nizami-Jedid reforms. (It is not the state coat of arms of the Ottoman [Empire](https://www.worldhistory.org/empire/), as the Empire did not use any)
