The site where the monks of Glastonbury Abbey supposedly discovered [King Arthur](https://www.worldhistory.org/King_Arthur/) and his wife [Guinevere](https://www.worldhistory.org/Guinevere/)’s [burial](https://www.worldhistory.org/burial/) site in 1191 CE. According to the story, Arthur and Guinevere were later reburied under the main altar by King [Edward I of England](https://www.worldhistory.org/Edward_I_of_England/) (r. 1272-1307 CE) and Queen Eleanor (1246-1290 CE) in 1278 CE. The remains disappeared during King [Henry VIII of England](https://www.worldhistory.org/Henry_VIII_of_England/) (r. 1509-1547 CE) and the [Dissolution of the Monasteries](https://www.worldhistory.org/Dissolution_of_the_Monasteries/) in 1539 CE.
