Lady Jane Grey was briefly declared queen in [England](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/england/) in 1553 CE following the [death](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Death/) of her cousin [Edward VI of England](https://www.worldhistory.org/Edward_VI_of_England/) (r. 1547-1553 CE). Lady Jane was then imprisoned by [Mary I of England](https://www.worldhistory.org/Mary_I_of_England/) (r. 1553-1558 CE) and executed in the [Tower of London](https://www.worldhistory.org/Tower_of_London/) in 1554 CE.
