## Image Caption

[Buddha](https://www.worldhistory.org/Siddhartha_Gautama/) image at Wat Lokayasutharam, Ayutthaya Historical Park, Thailand. The date of this Buddha image is not known but the vertical arm that supports the head (which rests on a [giant](https://www.worldhistory.org/Giants/) lotus flower) is characteristic of the middle-Ayutthayan period (after the 16th century CE). The image was originally housed in a viharn (assembly hall) but only the 24 octagonal foundation columns remain. Photo taken 2012 CE.
