Goodrich Castle in Herefordshire, [England](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/england/) was built in the 11th Century by Godric of Mappestone. The castle is considered one of the finest examples of Norman [architecture](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/architecture/), and influenced the designs of many later castles. It feel into ruin during the English Civil [War](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/War/) (1642–1651 CE) after being damaged by cannonballs. This gif shows how it would have appeared prior to the war.
