In this battle of the [Wars of the Roses](https://www.worldhistory.org/Wars_of_the_Roses/), Yorkist forces loyal to [Edward IV of England](https://www.worldhistory.org/Edward_IV_of_England/) (r. 1461-1470 CE & 1471-1483 CE) defeated a Lancastrian army. After the battle, Prince Edward, the only heir of [Henry VI of England](https://www.worldhistory.org/Henry_VI_of_England/) (1422-1461 CE & 1470-1471 CE) was killed.
