## Image Caption

The atrium of the Samnite House in [Herculaneum](https://www.worldhistory.org/Herculaneum/) has a gallery with Ionic columns and latticework fences made of stucco on three sides. The house, which dates from the 2nd century BCE, is one of the oldest buildings so far discovered in Herculaneum.
