## Image Caption

Plaster copy of the Laocoön group. Allard Pierson, University of Amsterdam, (APM 16.097). The [sculpture](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Sculpture/) was shown in this way for four centuries. Laocoön's outstretched arm, the arm of the younger son and parts of the snake are early-modern restorations. Based on a [Roman](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Roman/) copy of a [Hellenistic](https://www.worldhistory.org/Hellenic_World/) original made c. 200 BCE.
