## Image Caption

The Etemenanki ([Sumerian](https://www.worldhistory.org/Sumerians/) for: "[temple](https://www.worldhistory.org/temple/) of the foundation of heaven and earth") was a massive [ziggurat](https://www.worldhistory.org/ziggurat/) dedicated to [Marduk](https://www.worldhistory.org/Marduk/) in ancient [Babylon](https://www.worldhistory.org/babylon/). It is unclear when the Etemenanki was originally constructed, and it is sometimes associated with or conflated with the Biblical Tower of [Babel](https://www.worldhistory.org/babylon/).
