## Image Caption

The 2nd century BCE [bronze](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/bronze/) statue known as 'The [Hellenistic](https://www.worldhistory.org/Hellenic_World/) Prince'. The statue perhaps represents Attalus II, king of [Pergamon](https://www.worldhistory.org/pergamon/). The head may also be a portrait of an unknown wealthy [Roman](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Roman/), eager to appear as a Hellenistic prince. The work is influenced by the 4th century BCE [sculpture](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Sculpture/) of [Alexander](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Alexander/) by Lysippus and is one of the very rare examples of bronze Hellenistic sculpture. The statue is cast by the lost-wax technique and the figure holds a spear in his right hand. Provenance: the Quirinal, [Rome](https://www.worldhistory.org/Rome/). (Palazzo Massimo, Rome).
