## Image Caption

The Andesite Sun of Sarmizegetusa Regia is an altar that together with the temples in its vicinity formed an assemblage in which religious ceremonies and rituals were performed. It was built during the reign of King Burebista (82/61 – 44 BCE) in 1st century BCE when he moved the Dacian capital from Argedava to Sarmizegetusa. It suffered massive destruction after the [Roman](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Roman/) [conquest](https://www.worldhistory.org/warfare/) in 106. AD.
