A painting from manuscript of the "Rawdat al-safa" (Persian for "Gardens of Purity") made in Iran c. 1571 - 1572 CE. The painting depicts [Ali](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Ali/) (r. 656 - 661 CE) and Aisha (c. 613 - 678 CE), who led the opposing factions at the [Battle](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/battle/) of the Camel in 656 CE. From the Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C. The Rawdat al-safa was originally authored in 1497 CE.
