## Image Caption

This bowl is part of the so-called "Hildesheim [Silver](https://www.worldhistory.org/Silver/) Treasure" and depicts a medallion of [Cybele](https://www.worldhistory.org/Cybele/). This relief probably had been originally attached to a piece of decorative armor as a military medal. The Hildesheim treasure, consisting of more than 70 pieces, is one of the most substantial and qualitatively valuable treasure troves of antiquity. It represents a luxurious dinner service consisting of magnificent silver vessels, dining, and drinking tableware. Most certainly, this table service was produced in [Italy](https://www.worldhistory.org/italy/). Silver, partly gilded, niello. Found 1868 CE in Hildesheim, Germany. 1st century BCE to 1st century CE. It is on display at the Altes Museum in Berlin, Germany.
