## Image Caption

The figure type of the Spinario (boy with a thorn) originated in [Hellenistic](https://www.worldhistory.org/Hellenic_World/) art of the late 3rd century BCE. The popular genre motif of the shepherd or peasant boy is conveyed in several versions and different materials. This statue was amended in the 19th century CE after a [bronze](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/bronze/) from the early [Roman](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Roman/) imperial age. Marble. Roman copy, around 150 CE. Acquired in [Rome](https://www.worldhistory.org/Rome/), [Italy](https://www.worldhistory.org/italy/), in 1826 CE. It is on display at the Altes Museum in Berlin, Germany.
