The goddess [Bastet](https://www.worldhistory.org/Bastet/), who had a cat’s head, was one of the many gods in the polytheistic [Egyptian religion](https://www.worldhistory.org/Egyptian_Religion/) and had her own [temple](https://www.worldhistory.org/temple/) in Bubastis, in the [Nile](https://www.worldhistory.org/nile/) Delta.
