[Epicurus](https://www.worldhistory.org/Epicurus/) (341 BCE – 270 BCE) was an ancient [Greek](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/greek/) philosopher. The image of the founder of the school of Epicureanism resembles that of Metrodorus. Yet, Epicurus is characterized as a profound teacher with a furrowed brow and knitted eyebrows. For raised browbones were considered to be a sign of intellectual superiority in Antiquity. Marble. [Roman](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Roman/) copy (1st century CE) of an original one (c. 270 BCE). It is on display at the Altes Museum in Berlin, Germany.
