## Image Caption

This statuette once stood as a votive in the ritual chamber of the "Holy House" in Priene ([Ionia](https://www.worldhistory.org/ionia/) Region, [Turkey](https://www.worldhistory.org/Asia_Minor/)). The features of the statuette, as well as attributes like the flowing hair and emotional gaze, are strongly reminiscent of [Alexander the Great](https://www.worldhistory.org/Alexander_the_Great/) (r. 356 - 323 BCE). The damaged figure has to be restored with a cloak and a scabbard, which are not consistent with known portraits of [Alexander](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Alexander/) the Great. The figure could instead portray one of the heroes associated with Alexander. Marble. C. 160 BCE. It is on display at the Altes Museum in Berlin, Germany.
