## Image Caption

The youthful, clean-shaven face of the [Seleucid](https://www.worldhistory.org/Seleucid_Empire/) king Antiochus IV Epiphanes (r. 175 - 164 BCE) resembles [Alexander the Great](https://www.worldhistory.org/Alexander_the_Great/) (r. 356 - 323 BCE), with features of age, such as the high hairline rendering the image more realistic. The head was presumably part of a cuirassed statue with a spear in the raised right hand. Marble, 174-165 BCE. It is on display at the Altes Museum in Berlin, Germany.
