## Image Caption

A two-storey building at [Herculaneum](https://www.worldhistory.org/Herculaneum/). The town was buried under ash and lava following th eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE. It is very rare for upper stories of [Roman](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Roman/) buildings with their wooden elements to survive.
