The Large Palaestra of Pompeii (Illustration)

The Large Palaestra of Pompeii (also known as the Great Gymnasium) is of a large open air square, approximately 140 x 140 m, surrounded by porticoes. Built in the Augustan period, at the beginning of the 1st century CE, as a space to practise gymnastics and athletics.
